Apple release four iPhones in this fall, including iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. They are the fourteenth generation, while iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are lower-priced iPhones, succeeding iPhone 11, and iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are flagship iPhones, succeeding iPhone 11 Pro. Among them, the iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 12 Pro debate gives shoppers a tricky choice. Both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro benefit from 5G support, blazing A14 Bionic processors and gorgeous OLED displays. But there are lots of key differences to discuss — especially when it comes to price. Let's take a look.
Design
These two iPhones are basically the same in frontal appearance, which is also one of the reasons that consumers struggle between them. Actually, the main difference lies in the material - iPhone 12 adopts aerospace-grade aluminum edges, while iPhone 12 Pro adopts surgical-grade stainless steel. There is no doubt that iPhone 12 Pro looks more sophisticated and more high-end, but the con is that the stainless steel edge is easily contaminated with fingerprints, which makes consumers have to wipe their iPhone frequently to keep it bright.
Displays
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro share the same screen size. Both are 6.1" Super Retina XDR displays and covered by ceramic shield which is clearly tougher than any smartphone glass. The biggest difference between these two displays is the peak brightness. iPhone 12 is 625 nits while iPhone 12 Pro is 825 nits.
Unfortunately, iPhone 12 Pro, as Apple's flagship smartphone in 2020, doesn't feature 120hz display for extra smooth motion as was previously rumored. Users will still be getting a 60Hz screen on every version of the iPhone 12.
Performance
Four iPhone 12 models are equipped with the latest A14 Bionic chip which is the fastest chip ever in a smartphone. A14 Bionic is the first 5-nanometer chip in the industry, with advanced components literally atoms wide. Forty percent more transistors rev up speeds while increasing efficiency for great battery life. And a new ISP powers Dolby Vision recording.
Cameras
iPhone 12 continues to feature a dual-lens rear camera system, including a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel wide-angle main camera. New features include Night Mode for both the front and rear cameras, as well as Night Mode Time Lapse for putting together slick nighttime videos.iPhone 12 Pro is equipped with a three-camera system, including a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens and a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, as well as an advanced LiDAR sensor for better augmented reality and greater depth sensing for photos and videos. It supports 4X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom, which is obviously a lot behind Android smartphones. But with a new ISP and powerful algorithm, iPhone 12 Pro still ranks the fourth place in DXO smartphone camera ranking.
Batteries
iPhone 12 equips a 2775mAh battery while iPhone 12 Pro equips a 2815mAh battery. The two iPhone 12 models have some slight differences in terms of rated battery life, but both of them should get you through most of the day.
Prices
iPhone 12 starts at $799, storage rom from 64GB to 256GB.
iPhone 12 Pro starts at $999, storage rom from 128GB to 512GB.
Outlook
In conclusion, it is hard to go wrong with choosing any of these two products. Although iPhone 12 Pro features more comprehensive configuration, and the stainless steel frame is more textured, iPhone 12 equipped almost every core function of iPhone 12 Pro. For those pursuing cost-effective smartphone, iPhone 12 is more worthy of consideration. For those pursuing high-end product, or an enthusiast of photography, obviously the iPhone 12 Pro is more worth purchasing.
One more thing to note is, REMEMBER TO BUY A CHARGER ! Although Apple claimed that it is for environmental protection, this behavior is still unacceptable. Because all iPhone 12 models support 20W charging this year, which means that previous chargers are not compatible with this power, and it will be an additional burden for those who want to experience fast charging. In addition, Earpods is no longer standard this year.
