From iPhone 11 to iPhone 12, the next generation of iPhone should be called iPhone 13. However, there is news that the iPhone in 2021 may regain the "s" suffix naming and call it iPhone 12s. Whatever it's called, we examine the latest rumors about the iPhone 13 - or, perhaps, iPhone 12s. Let's check it out.

When the iPhone 12 series were first released, many people were thinking about waiting for the next generation of iPhone, because they believe the next generation will definitely have even greater surprises. So do we.

However, reports from well-known market research institutions and Apple's own financial tell us that the iPhone 12 series have achieved great success. Take IDC's data as an example: Driven by the iPhone 12 series, Apple achieved a market share of 23.4% with a shipment of 90.1 million unit, and returned to the top of the list. In the first fiscal quarter of 2021, Apple's total revenue reached US$111.4 billion, which is a new record.

It's only a few months since Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 series, but we're looking forward to the iPhone 13 series. There are many rumors and leaks about iPhone 13, or perhaps iPhone 12s now. Will it be as successful as iPhone 12 series? Let's check it out.

Quick Q&A

1. What will the next iPhone be called? - iPhone 13 still seems to be the most likely name. However, based on past experience, iPhone 12s is also possible.

2. When will iPhone 13 be released? - Expected to be launched in September, 2021.

3. How much will the iPhone 13 cost? - It is likely to start at $799 for the standard model. In other words, it will keep the same price as iPhone 12 series.

4. Will the iPhone 13 look different? - Yes, but not that much. iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini may be expected to be added LiDAR sensor which is for Pro only in iPhone 12 series.

Big Upgrades

In addition to regular upgrades like iOS 15 and A15 Bionic chip, in the leaks and rumors we collected, it has five major upgrades. Let's check it out.

1. 120Hz refresh rate display

Many thought the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro would feature a 120hz refresh rate display, but it was disappointing when the iPhone 12 series arrived with only 60Hz. There is speculation that is for controlling the power consumption. But this year, iPhone 13 will be equipped with LTPO display which could bring the advantage of lower power drain, boosting battery life in new models. Unfortunately, the new technology seems only available for iPhone 13 Pro series.

2. Always-on display

Thanks to the LTPO screen, iPhone 13 will finally support Always-on display. According to Weinbach, the Always-on display function on iPhone 13 series will show clock and battery charging icons which are always visible, and the past notifications will be displayed through bars and smaller icons.

3. Touch ID in Side button

There is no doubt that Face ID is fast and safe, but in the post-COVID world, masks are always on people's cheeks. In many cases, Touch IS will be more useful. Apple is unlikely to bring back the Home button where the Touch ID used to lie. In January, 2021, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the iPhone 13 will have Touch ID. This is not without warning that the iPad Air 2020 has embed Touch ID in the power button.

4. Cameras

According to news that Apple has reached an agreement with Sony, the latter will provide the latter with the service of providing LiDAR scanners in the next three years, so it is believed that all iPhone 13 models will be equipped with LiDAR sensor. A report shows that the cameras of iPhone 13 could be about 0.9mm larger and be entirely covered with sapphire glass. For the two standard models, don't worry about the photo quality, since the main camera of iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 series will be very similar. And you can also use some apps to enhance photo quality with ease.

5. 1TB storage

Analysts at Wedbush add their choices to Jon Prosser's claims that the iPhone 13 will offer up to 1TB storage. It has been 3 years since the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max brought 512GB iPhone in 2018. In order to meet the demand for larger capacity, iPhone 13 will launch a 1TB version.
