Last year, Apple brought the latest iOS 14 in WWDC 2020. The update brought a variety of new features and changes, like picture-in-picture, App Clips, widgets, translate app, etc. Most of them can be called big leaps for iOS. You can view the blog I wrote earlier on iOS Features You Need to Know to learn more new features of iOS 14. In this post, I will focus more about iOS 14 tips and tricks that I have found over the past few months, which may be a help to you. Let's move on and check it out.
1. Quick Back
In the Settings app, long press the Back button on the upper left corner to choose which menu to return to.
2. Picture-in-Picture
Another new update included better picture-in-picture functionally. It's not just simply for voice calls, but also works with apps like Netflix. You can simply return to your home screen while on call to have you phone continue video chat in picture-in-picture. Just wave goodbye to full-screen calls. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn't support the new feature yet.
3. Tap the back for screenshot
It might not be one of the headline features of iOS 14, but it is my most favorite feature on iOS 14. You can tap the back of your iPhone to launch specific functions, like snapping a screenshot. To enable it, navigate to "Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap", then choose either double or triple tap to enable a function when you tap the back of your iPhone.
4. Use App Clips
App Clips is another new feature in iOS 14, which allows you to use an app without having to downloading it directly. An App Clip will appear at the bottom of your iPhone display with the option to open it. For example, when you want to rent a scooter through Spin, a Spin App Clip will appear when you scan the code on scooter. You can complete the task without installation and download. Once the task has been finished, it will vanish.
5. Camera Control
When you load up the camera app, the controls are quite basic, but if you want to, there are some hidden and easily revealed. On Photo Interface, you can directly long press the camera button to record a short video, or press and slide to the left to take a snapshot.
6. Shape Recognition
When draw a shape in Memos, pause when finish, it will recognize the shape and make it into standard shape.
7. Hide Your Phone Number
Hiding your Caller ID is a great tool for making calls anonymously. Start by opening up the Phone app and navigate to the Keyboard icon on the bottom. Next, dial "*#31#" before entering the number you want to call, which could hide your Caller ID.
Above are 7 tips and tricks that I mostly use and are worth sharing in iOS 14. Hope it a help to you. Because iOS 14 is still being updated and maintained, this blog will keep updating. If you want to experience these new features, you may wish to upgrade your iPhone to the latest iOS 14 first, before which, don't forget to create a backup in case data loss.
